Carnivorous plant

Image
Carnivorous plants are plants that get most of their nutrients from consuming animals and protozoos, specially insects and arthropods, however, they can also do the photosyntesis. These plants have adapted to grow in places where the soil is poor in nutrients, like nitrogen. such as acidic bog . Charles Darwin first wrote about these plants in 1875 in his book "Insectivorous Plants". Each type of carnivorous plant have a different trapping mechanism: -Snap traps: The only two snap traps plants are the Venus flytrap and the waterwheel plant, these two had a common ancestor with the snap trap adaptation. They catches a variety of arthropods, including spiders. (1) 1. A venus flytrap -Flypaper traps: The flypaper trap utilises sticky mucilage or glue. The leaf of flypaper traps is studded with mucilage secreting glands. (2) -Pitfall traps: These are plants with a internal chamber with a digestive liquid that is used to drown insects. (3) -Bladder traps: This method is used by t...

Seahorses

Image
Seahorses, also called hippocampus, are small marine fishes, there are 46 species of sea horse. It is the weirdest looking fish, because it doesn't look like others, it have a head and neck suggestive of a horse, seahorses also feature segmented bony armour, an upright posture and a curled prehensile tail. Seahorses are mainly found in shallow tropical and temperate salt water throughout the world, they live in sheltered areas such as seagrass beds , estuaries , coral reefs, and mangroves .  Because of their bodies, they are terrible swimmers, and they can die from exhaustion if they die agaisn't water current, they use their tails to grab on corals and algaes, while they feed on planktons with their long snout. The seahorses are monogamous, it means that it haves the same partner in all their life. Also, when two sea horses procreate, the female transfer the eggs to the male, the fertilized eggs grows in the brood pouch and the male seahorse gives birth to almost 2500 baby s...

Mars

Image
Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun, it's also called the red sun because of the colour of it surface, it's the second smallest planet in the Solar System, only behind Mercury. It haves two moons, called Deimos and Fobos. The colour of its surface is because of the iron oxide that gives it a red appeareance. Most of the surface of Mars feature deserts, and its poles have polar ice caps. It have a thin and dry atmosphere. In the past it was though that the planet had life, and some persons affirm that it had life million of years ago, but for now, it isn't know. Is impossible that Mars may have life, it is sterile, and it receive so much radiation from the sun.  But it had a big ocean very while ago. In 2018, a lake with salty water was discovered below the ice of the south pole of Mars. This created a discussion about if the humans could live there in a future. Olympus mons compared to Spain The Olympus mons is a volcano located here and is the biggest mountain in the S...

The Dodos

Image
The dodo is a extinc bird, that couldn't fly, notwithstanding it's incapacity of flying. The dodo's closest genetic relative was the also extinct Rodrigues solitaire, it formed the subfamily Raphinae, a clade that include pigeons and doves were. It habitet the island of Mauritius, wich is close to Madagascar, in the Indian Ocean. The diet of dodos is unknown, but there is a hypothesis that says that this bird ate the seeds from a tree known as tambalacoque or dodo tree , in 1973, it was thought that this species was dying out, there were supposedly only 13 specimens left, each one was estimated to be 300 years old, so the seed of this tree only germinated when it was digested by the dodo.   Why did Dodos went extinc? The humans arrived Mauritius island in the XVI century, it was descovered by muslims and then by Portuguese sailors, but the dodo was first saw between 1574-1581, when the Dutch people conquered the island they hunted the birds very easy, because the dodos e...

The Black Holes

Image
Black holes are massive astronomic objects where gravity is so strong, that any particle, even the light, can escape from it. Black holes are the most fascinating and misterious objects in the universe, they are formed from dead stars, that when it run out of fuel, its core collapse and that trigger a supernova explosion. Black holes are invisible, its core its completely black, because light particles can't escape from it, so it can't reflect light and isn't visible. But black holes don't suck thing, it only absorb those thing that get in it. The light can curve and form a light ring around it. There are million of black holes in our galaxy, but they aren't as big as the supermassive black holes. The supermassive black holes are millions times bigger than the Sun, it's know that there is a supermassive black hole in almost every galaxy, included ours. The crabs

Crabs are semiaquatic crustaceans that lives all over the world, they are arthropods and have an exoskeleton that protect them , they have ten legs, wich two of them are pincers, that are used for feeding and defending themself.  There are over 4000 crab species, some of them lives in land but puts their eggs in the water. Most crabs are omnivorous, they eat fishes, worms, molluscs and other crustaceans, they don't usually hunt their food but they wait to the tide to bring them dead animals.  Coconut crab Other crabs, like the Coconut Crab, climb the coconut palm to eat it's fruit, is the heaviest terrestrial crustacean in the world     Japanese Spider Crab There are crabs that lives in fresh water and others in the sea, even in deep water, like the Japanese spider crab, that lives at depths between 50 and 600 meters. Their legs can grow to 3 meters long and can weigh to 19 kilograms.     And finally a curiosity. Why do crabs walk horizontally?  Most c...
